 About the Book

Ever since she was a little girl, thirty-year-old Rose dreamed of the day Harley would carry her across the threshold on their honeymoon. So what if this isn’t her actual wedding day, and that she’s only here because Harley was left at the altar just a few hours earlier?

Trading San Francisco for paradise and swapping her bridesmaid’s bouquet for a Blue Hawaii, Rose hopes she can finally escape the friend zone.

Once upon a time they had been more than friends, but life got in the way. She’s spent every day since wishing Harley would get a clue.

She’s always been his best friend.

He’s always been hers.

She’s in love with him.

He’s … not in love with her.

He’s … marrying someone else.

He’s … hiding something.

He's ... well - it's complicated.

Here's a little taste of the story for you, read this excerpt

He doesn’t make it five yards before the truck slams to a stop, its red taillights hovering, taunting me in the early SF morning. He isn’t moving, but I’m on autopilot. One step, two steps, my feet swallow the ground between us, and then he’s out of the truck, catching me up in his big arms as I wrap myself around him and smash my lips down on his, kissing him in a way that the parentals probably wished they weren’t privy to.
When our kisses return to gentle sorrowful pecks I pull back and whisper, “I love you, Pan.”
“Wendy, my Wendy,” he says breathlessly. “You wait for me. You wait for me or I’m going to come back and gut the asshole who takes my place.”
“No one ever could take your place,” I tell him. He nods, setting me on my feet and smoothing the hair back from my forehead.

my review and rating

Y'all ... this book is just so good.  I honestly wasn't super into it until about a third into it.  I didn't love the set up and it just wasn't hooking me, but when it got it me, I was in and couldn't stop reading it.

Yes, this story was so good it gets Emma Stone.  She's my favorite, so that's special.

Ok, for real now, I related to these characters so well.  I don't know if it is the way the author crafted the story or if it was the set up of the book, but I was 100% invested in this book.  You know I love books that I can see while I read... this is one of the best I've had so far at this special task.  I literally loved it.  I had all the feels and was so high and so low every time the story took a turn.

I honestly didn't read the description of this book again before I started reading it, so I don't know what I was expecting outside of a love story and people who'd known each other a long time... let me tell you, I got WAY MORE than I expected.  I feel like I keep saying the same thing over, but I really have no words to express my love and all the feelings I have for this story.  I finished reading this two days ago, and I really feel like I still have a hangover from it.  Let me think about how I can explain it... Let's try this.

The way the book is presented is both current day and looks at the past.  I didn't get it at first, I didn't see why I was being fed a little bit of history every so often rather than just starting there or having it all laid out at once.  Now after finishing the book, I liked the little bit here and there when it was called for.  I don't think I would have fallen in love with the story and the characters as much had I known all of their past story before everything in their present happened.  I like getting it little by little when things happened in their present day lives.

The characters... man oh holy man, the characters.  I feel like I am a part of their lives.  I feel like I know them.  I felt what they felt, understood what they were going through, and had the same journey through this book.  I honestly had all the feels in this story, and I think that is 100% because I was so invested in the characters and their journey.

I have not read anything from this author before, but I can tell you now that I will for sure be checking out all her other books.  I loved her writing.  Obviously anyone who can craft characters that get me as good as these two did is absolutely going to become a must read for me.  So I'll check out some more of her work and let you know if the must read title sticks!

The pace of this book was great.  I don't feel like it was slow or fast, just that it told the story in a way that was super comfortable.  I didn't struggle to keep up or to understand.  The writing style is great; she had me laughing, crying, you know basically living through these characters.  It was great.

I would LOVE to see this in movie form - oh my gosh it would just be amazing.

The book was great, bottom line.  I wholeheartedly recommend this to you all.  I loved it.
